Wentworth car hostages freed unharmed after 4-hour standoff


A man, who allegedly held his young son and female partner hostage for more than 4 hours in a car at a property in Wentworth Sunday morning, has released them unharmed.

ALS Paramedics spokesman in Durban, Garrith Jamieson says the armed man was prevented by police to drive off from a block of flats with his partner and son – believed aged five in his car.

Jamieson says police negotiators were successful in helping secure the release of the boy first and his partner a short while later.

“From six o’clock this morning SAPS negotiators have been were negotiating with the gentleman. Now a short while ago, approximately half an hour to 45 minutes ago, we saw the man release the small child into the care of the negotiators, followed then by his partner and we did see that he was arrested by the necessary police force that are (sic) in attendance.”
