Public urged to remain vigilant as weather system intensifies

The government has raised concerns over the impact of expected severe weather conditions during the festive season.

Above-normal rainfall and frequent thunderstorms are forecast across several parts of the country, particularly over the Highveld and eastern regions.

Cooperative Governance Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, is urging the public to remain vigilant as the weather system intensifies.

Hlabisa’s Spokesperson, Pearl Maseko-Binqose, says disaster management teams are on high alert and communities are being urged to take precautions.

“Whilst the upcoming rainfall is welcome in various parts of the country, it also increases the risk of flooding and other dangerous incidents, especially in low-lying areas. Disaster management centres at all levels are on high alert and ready to respond. Communities are encouraged to report any hazardous conditions to local authorities. Everyone is urged to stay informed through official weather updates and follow warnings to ensure their safety and protect property,” says Maseko-Binqose.
