NPA welcomes court’s ruling on Shebe Maburna’s bail application

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo has welcomed the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court’s decision to deny prominent Lekompo musician, Lehlogonolo Chauke popularly known as Shebe Maburna, bail.

Shebe Maburna was arrested after he allegedly shot and wounded a fan in Ladanna Polokwane in October this year.

The victim was in ICU for four weeks and remains in the Polokwane provincial hospital.

Shebe Maburna is facing nine counts, including three attempted murders.

The court heard that all the weapons that Shebe Maburna used have not been recovered by the police.

NPA Spokesperson Mashudu Malabi says they are hopeful that further investigations will lead to the discovery of all the weapons.

He failed to adduce the reason which can satisfy the court to release him on bail. Remember that in court there were lots of charges which had been given to the court that by the time when he was released on bail in different courts, he was committing further offenses. That is why he was denied bail.”

Spokesperson for Limpopo Artist MovementMphoza Mashabela has expressed unhappiness over Shebe Maburna being denied bail, and believes the artist is being treated unfairly.

We are not happy as the organization. This is a setback to the entertainment industry, (and) to the promotersThis is very bad. We never even lost hope. We thought today a miracle would happen but what I can ensure the public is this is not over. I’ve been engaging with the family and the advocate. We are taking it to Polokwane High Court.

A family member, Pulsion Malatji believes that he should have been granted bail to be able to take care of his unemployed parents and partner.
