National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi
Outgoing National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi, will return to the witness stand for cross examination at the Nkabinde Enquiry in Pretoria.
Batohi is being questioned over her decision to approach President Cyril Ramaphosa about the conduct of suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke.
The enquiry is probing Chauke’s fitness to hold office, after Batohi accused him of questionable decisions in high-profile cases, including the Cato Manor death squad matter and that of former Crime Intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.
On Thursday, Chauke’s legal counsel, Advocate Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, accused Batohi of withholding expert evidence and misleading the enquiry.
Batohi strongly denied those claims.
