Border Management Authority intercepts alleged human tracking operation.
The Border Management Authority (BMA) has disrupted a suspected human trafficking operation at OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park.
Acting BMA Commissioner Jane Thupana has confirmed that 14 Ethiopians and 16 Bangladeshis have been intercepted by BMA immigration and border law enforcement teams at the airport.
The interventions form part of the authority’s intensified efforts to combat human trafficking, irregular migration and transnational organised crime, particularly during the festive season peak.
BMA spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi says, “In the first incident, 14 Ethiopian nationals, comprising of nine males and five females, were intercepted upon arrival travelling on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. In a separate incident, 16 Bangladeshis, who were males, were intercepted after BMA officials discovered that they were in possession of fraudulent visas.”
