The parents of a four-year-old girl from Eldorado Park in Johannesburg will be back in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto this morning.
They are charged with the murder of their daughter in August.
The child’s father is facing charges including murder, rape, assault and child abuse, while the mother’s charges include failure to report sexual offences against her child.
Found unconscious in a shack with head injuries, bruises and a swollen eye, after her father allegedly assaulted her, the four-year-old later died in hospital.
The case against the parents prompted widespread condemnation, with the community of Eldorado Park staging protests each time the pair appeared in court.
Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority is waiting for further results before the Director of Public Prosecutions decides where the trial will be held.
