Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi
Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has revealed that the Democratic Alliance (DA), through its attorneys, has written to the advisory panel threatening to halt the interviews for the new National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP).
While Kubayi would not go into details, she indicated that the letter indicates an intention to interdict the process through the court.
The panel is expected to interview a total of six candidates over the next two days in a bid to fill the NPA Head post, which will become vacant at the end of January 2026.
Kubayi, who describes the DA’s letter as self-inflicted urgency, says that there is no need to halt the process, and the panel will forge ahead with the interviews.
“We have received a letter with the intention to interdict the process. This letter comes from, it’s coming from Minde, Shapiro, and Smith Attorneys on behalf of the DA, threatening to go to court urgently. The letter dated the 7th but was received by us as the panel today. I will not go into detail because we do believe that this is a self-inflicted urgency. We have instructed our legal team to respond to the letter and should the urgent application be brought forward, to respond to it. We do feel that there is no need to halt the process. As the panel, there is no basis and therefore, the letter sent is actually misguided.”
