Home Affairs extends office hours for holiday rush

The Department of Home Affairs says their office working hours will be extended from today until the 19th of this month.

A second extension of the working hours will also take place next year from the 5th to the the 16th of January.

These extended hours are aimed at helping citizens, non citizens and visitors with document applications and collections.

The extension applies to all Home Affairs branches nationwide.

With holiday travel set to get under way from this weekend, the Department of Home Affairs says it will keep its offices open longer to ease the festive rush.

For the next two weeks, branches will close at 6pm instead of 4pm, with the same extended hours returning in January for another two weeks.

December is South Africa’s busiest travel season, as thousands journey across provinces and borders to re-unite with family or head to holiday destinations.

Longer operation hours are aimed at allowing citizens to apply for or collect passports, IDs and other emergency documents needed for smooth travel.

Bookings must be made in advance through the branch appointment booking system before visiting a branch.
