Miss SA Qhawekazi Mazaleni honoured at ancestral home in Dutywa

The reigning Miss South Africa, Qhawekazi Mazaleni, received a grand welcome at her ancestral home in Dutywa in the Eastern Cape. Mazaleni was crowned Miss SA a month ago, and came home to celebrate with her people.

Mazaleni is the second Miss SA from the area.

In 2019 fellow Dutywa resident Zozibini Tunzi, dazzled the world as she was crowned Miss Universe. Residents came in their numbers to support one of their own, as the 24-year-old returned to the town she calls home.

Young girls and future beauty pageant contestants got a chance to meet the reigning queen.

Mazaleni says she hopes her triumph will inspire girls from all walks of life.

“Coming back home has been extremely humbling and deeply fulfilling. I want children in Dutywa to be able to look at me and be validated in their dreams and their hopes knowing that it’s possible to achieve them no matter how big. Even if the want to be doctors or engineers, they shouldn’t doubt themselves.”
