Losi urges stronger Tripartite Alliance at COSATU 40th anniversary

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) President Zingiswa Losi has called for strengthened unity within the Tripartite Alliance at COSATU’s 40th-anniversary rally at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

Marking four decades since its founding in 1985, the federation reflected on its role in the anti-apartheid struggle and its victories for workers, as well as a steady decline in membership, driven by job losses and a rapidly changing labour market.

Losi used the event to urge alliance partners to close ranks ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

“The African National Congress, the South African Communist Party, SANCO, COSATU let’s go and agree on the modalities of powers and alliances. We shall rise united to win the local government elections that are coming. We have to speak to the unity of the alliance. We must not allow ourselves to handover what we fought so hard for.”
