Gauteng police say a manhunt is underway for three suspects believed to be behind the shooting at the Saulsville Hostel near Atteridgeville in Pretoria on Saturday morning.
Eleven people have been killed in the attack.
Fourteen others were wounded and have been taken to hospital.
The shooting happened at a drinking establishment at the local hostel.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says they have taken a statement from the owner of the drinking establishment.
The woman is among those receiving treatment in hospital and two of her children, aged between three and twelve, were killed after being caught in the crossfire.
Mathe says it is deeply unfortunate that young children lost their lives in the incident.
