South Africa’s Education regulator, Umalusi, has confirmed the 2025 matric results will be released on the 12th of January 2026.
Umalusi, together with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations & Council on Higher Education, held a media briefing in Pretoria on Friday.
UMalusi says marking and verification processes are already underway.
The marking of examination papers will conclude on the 18th of this month; afterwards, the quality assurance process will happen to ensure accuracy, as per Umalusi’s mandate.

Umalusi and SAQA are also seeing a worrying rise in unaccredited institutions and misrepresented qualifications. Dr Makhapa Makhafola encourages learners, parents and employers to verify institutions and certificates beforehand.
Dr Makhafola says they are busy doing awareness campaigns across the country, making people aware of bogus institutions.
“We make sure that we really inform the public about bogus institutions because they are upon us. We need to be able to manage, especially in big cities like Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Most find themselves exposed to such mishaps.”
SAQA, QCTO, CHE & Umalusi stand united against bogus colleges.
At today’s GCIS briefing, partners urged the public to verify institutions via official NQF platforms.
Illegal operators face serious penalties.
