The Cape Winelands District Municipality says they’ll continue to fight one of two fires in the mountains above De Doorns. Several fires were burning in the district yesterday. Fire Services spokesperson, Jo-Anne Otto, says firefighters worked throughout the night to contain some of the fires.
“The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services confirms that firefighting efforts continue on one of the two fires reported in De Doorns yesterday afternoon. The veld fire above Stofland on the southern side of De Doorns has been fully contained. The last active flames were brought under control around midnight.”
“The fire on the northern side of the Hex River Valley has moved back into the Witzenberg side of the Matroosberg, in the area above the Swaarmoed Pass. The fire is burning in a scattered line above the farms. CWDM crews report that access to the area remains difficult, but that teams will meet after daylight to plan the activities for the day,” Jo-Anne Otto adds.
