Three people missing after KZN floods

Three people are believed to be missing and several others left destitute in areas in the uMshawathi Municipality near Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.

This is after heavy rains flooded their homes. The severe weather conditions follow a South African Weather Service’s orange level five thunderstorms warning.

“The MEC for Cogta in the province of KZN Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has deployed disaster management teams to Umshwathi Local Municipality. This follows a tragic incident where three people are believed to have been swept away during a severe flooding incident that took place in the area on Sunday afternoon. Disaster management teams are on site and are working around the clock to locate the three missing people,” says provincial Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department’s spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila.
