Batohi to continue testimony before Nkabinde Inquiry

The National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi, is expected to continue to testify before the Nkabinde Inquiry when it resumes its hearings in Pretoria on Monday.

The inquiry is looking into suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andrew Chauke‘s fitness to hold office.

This follows allegations that he obstructed key criminal prosecutions and shielded high- profile individuals from facing justice.

On Friday the inquiry announced an early adjournment after its team said some challenges were hindering its preparations.

However, the chairperson, retired Justice Bess Nkabinde told the team to speedily address the challenges.

“And for expediency, it will be proper that you work as a team. And I do appreciate that you’re not necessarily an evidence leader – but work as a team to assist this inquiry. We shouldn’t be going back and forth the way we have done. I think you’ve really given so much indulgences because things have not happened the way they ought to have happened. So, I think in that spirit that we spoke about in chambers, that let us work towards a common goal. We are here to serve the country,  to present evidence and to assist this inquiry.”
