Global media applauds SA for successfully hosting G20 Summit

The strong foreign media presence at the G20 Leaders’ Summit helped draw global attention to South Africa’s economic hub, Johannesburg.

For the past two days, journalists at the Nasrec Expo Centre had to simplify complex policy discussions and share key outcomes.

Some foreign journalists were excited to be in South Africa and to share the outcomes with their audiences back home.

While the G20 Summit was not accessible to everyone, people from across the world got the opportunity to see, listen and read about it.

Local and foreign media houses gave blow-by-blow accounts of the various deliberations that happened during this summit in Johannesburg.

For Xhinua News Agency journalist Ge Bai, this was a great experience.

“Our audiences are especially interested in how this summit is going to unfold with pressure from the us, and of course, with the declaration being adopted on the very first day, I think South Africa has firmly stood its ground, and of course, we did stories on this, and our news piece was carried by multiple news platforms, so it was a great experience,” says Bai.

The world’s online, print and broadcast media talked about South Africa being the first African country to host the Leaders’ Summit.

Kenyan Journalist Sharon Nakola used their platform to make audiences understand the impact this has on their livelihoods and development.

“It’s my first time covering the G20 and I would say this is so big for Africa. South Africa hosting the G20 on this continent speaks a lot about Africa, and I’m so happy that whatever they are talking about, the solidarity, equality and all these things, these are the things that affect Africa. So, coming here to actually spread the message and reach out to the audience entirely in the world is just like voicing out Africa’s needs,” adds Nakola.

The newshounds also applauded South Africa for successfully hosting the event in a free, safe and secure environment.
