President Cyril Ramaphosa engages with some media representatives
President Cyril Ramaphosa is adamant that the G20 Leaders’ Summit is going to be a success. He met with media representatives from the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) and Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) on Tuesday.
They have handed over the M20 Johannesburg Declaration, where they called on G20 Leaders to prioritise media freedom, combat the wave of disinformation and push for media sustainability.
The President has assured the media fraternity that their issues will be raised during the G20 Summit this weekend.
“We will, after the G20, want to tell our people the various efforts that made this G20 successful, because it is going to be successful, and we would like the media to focus on that because we are on the global map. Everybody is watching us. Yes, we do have flaws like any country has flaws at any given time, but the important historic moment when an African country, which is laden with many problems and challenges, is demonstrating that it can rise.”
Ramaphosa has committed that he will share the Declaration with his G20 counterparts and press freedom remains vital.
