Batohi to testify at Nkabinde Inquiry after a witness list delay

National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi, is expected to testify on Wednesday at the Nkabinde Inquiry in Pretoria.

The delayed list of targeted witnesses by the NPA has led to the re-scheduling of her testimony. She was scheduled to testify on Tuesday.

This was due to outstanding documents and authorisation of NPA officials to testify on behalf of the suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Andrew Chauke.

He’s appearing before the Nkabinde Inquiry, which is probing his fitness to hold office.

The NPA’s evidence leader, Advocate David Mohlamonyane, has assured the inquiry that they will abide by the Judge’s order to avoid further delays.

“We’ve already made contact with one or two of them. One of them is in KZN. I still need to call him, talk to him. But I still need to make contact with some of them.”

The Judge told Mohlamonyane, “I do not want to delay your point. But this inquiry must not delay because we started late and at least towards the festive season, we should have made progress.”
