Accused in the Meyiwa murder trial
The state is expected to continue questioning Absalom Zungu on his knowledge of the alleged involvement of some of the accused in the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
Zungu has been called to testify by the defence at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the soccer captain.
He said to have been the one who told the police that two of the five accused, Muzi Sibiya and Bongani, could be linked to the murder.
However, when questioned by state prosecutor George Baloyi, Zungu could not be drawn to answer some questions about the accused.
Baloyi: “Do you know if [accused] number five, Mr Ntuli, was staying in Whistleton, Ermelo?”
Zungu: “Oh, no. It’s what I’ve said that I do not want to involve myself. If you involve yourself in matters or in issues … I try to avoid such things to talk about other people.”
Baloyi: “We previously put it to you that accused number 1, according to the cellphone records, was in Whistleton Emerlo, September to December 2019. Accused number 5 had also given an address in Emerlo. Are you saying that you can’t comment that accused one and five are connected to Whistleton Emerlo?”
Zungu: “No, I’m not, I was here to testify about something else, but now that I was staying in Ermelo, I must comment. I apologise to the court.”
