Gert Sibande Municipality committed to improve water infrastructure

The Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality in Mpumalanga, Walter Mngomezulu, says they are working hard to ensure that there’s adequate investment towards water infrastructure projects. He was speaking at the Gabosch Dam, which is under construction in Amsterdam.

The dam, which is the first of its kind in the province and the second countrywide, will be completed next year.

Mngomezulu says most of the communities in the area are depending on streams for water.

“We are happy that it will service around 19,837 households and the future growth population is taken care of. So, this area, the issue of scarcity of water will be eased. There’s a second one which is still in the process of approval in terms of the authorization, your NEMA processes in Chief Albert Lutuli in the Mpuluzi area is at an implementation readiness study in terms of its phases. That one’s going to be a lot bigger than this one.”
