Heavy downpours.
Farmers in South Africa’s summer rainfall areas are getting ready for another season of above average rainfall.
This follows heavy rainfall during the previous season, when many farmers were severely affected in terms of the quality of their grain and livestock diseases.
Farmers and other agricultural role players in the North West province gathered in Sannieshof on Saturday, to discuss best practices and develop strategies to adapt to the changing weather patterns.
NWK Agricultural Company Director Benedict Modise says, “We also need to work with our farmers to ensure that we share as much as we can – information that will cause them to be prepared, because it’s not only the crop farmers who are affected. We know that when we’ve got excessive rainfall, it actually impacts or affects our livestock farmers because it’s bringing now a high level of sickness or diseases within our livestock.”
