Durban businessman opens fraud and defamation case against Khumalo

Durban businessman James Stuart Scharnick has opened cases of fraud and defamation against Crime Intelligence Head, Dumisani Khumalo, at the Pretoria Central Police Station.

This follows Khumalo’s recent testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria, linking Scharnick to 34 criminal cases.

Khumalo said the businessman was found guilty on 18 charges, acquitted on five, while eleven cases were withdrawn.

Khumalo also claimed that the vehicle that suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya was driving was registered in Scharnick’s name.

Scharnick maintains that he has only been conviction of theft, for which he received a five-year suspended sentence and a fine.

“It has caused irreparable damage to myself and my family, and my business. It has put my life in danger by mere association and speculation linking me to a Big 5 cartel, and trying to say that I’m a serial hijacker. I’ve opened this case because I’ve never been convicted of hijacking in my life.”
