Power has been restored at the OR Tambo International Airport following an outage in the City of Ekurhuleni.
Passengers experienced delays Tuesday morning with the SABC crew travelling to Cape Town to cover the Medium-Term Budget Policy tatement on Wednesday, stuck for almost two hours waiting for their flight to Cape Town.
In an update, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said the power failure, which occurred at 19h20 on Monday evening was caused by a trip in the municipal grid with the local municipality currently investigating the cause of the disruption.
Concerns were around the outage’s impact on the airport’s infrastructure, specifically disruptions to the supply of aviation fuel to aircrafts.
According to ACSA, all critical airport services, including terminals, airfield operations and cargo handling, continue to operate without disruption.
ACSA says the airport’s backup generators kicked in, ensuring there was no impact on airport operations.
