Police search a vehicle and occupants
Over 200 suspects have been arrested in the Northern Cape for various crimes, including rape, murder, attempted murder, robbery and drug-related offences.
The suspects were apprehended during the week-long Operation Shanela.
Provincial police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says compliance inspections were conducted at numerous liquor premises, farms and scrapyards.
She says 24 unlicensed liquor premises were booked for non-compliance violations.
“Operation Shanela 2: multi-disciplinary teams executed 10 116 disruptive actions from Monday, 3 November 2025, until Sunday, 9 November 2025, resulting in the arrest of 289 individuals. With more boots on the ground to address the heightened risk of criminal activity associated with the festive season, combined with intelligence-led operations, perpetrators were successfully apprehended. Actions comprised stop and search actions, vehicle checkpoints, roadblocks and high-visibility patrols.”
