IDAC Head of Investigations kidnapped, assaulted, and abandoned

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has confirmed its Head of Investigation and Operations, Matthews Sesoko, was kidnapped and assaulted on Friday night. According to a statement released by the Directorate on Saturday morning, Sesoko was kidnapped while driving home and was assaulted before he was abandoned near Rabie Ridge in the Midrand area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

IDAC Spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, in a statement, says the suspects later abandoned Sesoko in Rabie Ridge, taking off with his laptop and cellphone.

“He managed to recieve assistance and was taken to a nearby police station to report the incident,” reads the statement in part.

Mamothame says, at this stage, the assailants and the motive for such actions are unknown and no speculation can be made on whether it is related to his work at IDAC.

He says the timing of this incident reflects the possible dangers of the space that Sesoko operates in.

Sesoko is currently receiving medical attention.
