EMPD Chief to continue testimony at Madlanga Commission

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Chief Jabulani Mapiyeye is set to continue to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Friday.

He is expected to resume his focus on alleged links between his deputy Julius Mkhwanazi and businessman and suspected criminal cartel member Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

On Thursday, Mapiyeye detailed Mkhwanazi’s alleged disregard for department processes.

He testified how Matlala’s security company signed two memorandums of understanding (MOU) with the City of Ekurhuleni, which were facilitated by Mkhwanazi.

The first MOU was for the unlawful fitting of blue lights on Matlala’s vehicles.

The second was in relation to a donation of vehicles from Matlala’s VIP security company, however, the handover did not occur.
