Gauteng braces for cold, wet weather overnight

Gauteng is bracing for cold and wet weather overnight.

This as the Weather Service issues a Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms expected across large parts of the province from 2pm today until the early hours of Friday morning.

The storms are expected to bring hail, strong winds and heavy rain, which could lead to flooding, damage to property and disruptions to services.

Residents are urged to be cautious, avoid flooded roads and stay away from open areas during lightning.

The Weather Services Lehlohonolo Thobela has warned communities to stay alert, as rain is also predicted in other parts of the country.

“These storms are expected to cover Gauteng, the southern parts of Limpopo, North West, Eastern parts of the Northern Cape, into the Free State, as well as the southwestern parts of Mpumalanga. In KwaZulu Natal, the yellow level 2 warning will cover the western parts of the province, which would cover areas around Newcastle into the eastern parts of Newcastle this afternoon. For tomorrow, cloudy conditions will persist for the eastern provinces, with a 60% chance of showers expected to cover the North West, Gauteng, Free State, into the northern parts of the Northern Cape,” says Thobela.
