Fourth accused in insurance related killings appears in court


The fourth accused in the insurance related killings in Limpopo has made his first appearance in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.

Accused Johannes Shokane had his case postponed to November 18 for bail application.

He’s the brother to former police sergeant Rachel Kutumela and Anna Shokane. Another accused is Rachel Kutumela’s daughter, Flora Shokane.

They allegedly took out insurance and funeral policies on some victims who were later killed.

Police say the accused benefitted more than R10 million.

Magistrate Rodgers Machovani has remanded the accused in custody.

“This matter is now postponed to the 18th of November for formal bail application. You will remain in custody, there is no bail at this stage,” said Magistrate Machovani.
