Sibiya unhappy with being asked ‘same questions’ in Meyiwa trial

Accused number one in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, Muzi Sibiya, says being asked the same questions takes him back to the moment he was allegedly assaulted by the police.

Sibiya is being cross examined by state prosecutor George Baloyi at the High Court in Pretoria.

He is appearing alongside four others for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.

Sibiya has alleged that he was assaulted multiple times following his arrest 2020.

Advocate Baloyi has asked him to quantify how many police officers and vehicles were present during the alleged assault.

Sibiya says he feels like he’s not getting a fair trial.

“I have a problem, my lord, with going back to the same question because now I do not know what is the intention of this prosecutor in his way of his questioning. I still maintain that I do not remember as to how many cars were there. And I’m being reminded now of the assault on me by them telling me that what is it that I know of the killing of Senzo. I’ve explained it and I’m now before court again, explaining. I then feel that this is not a fair trial in the manner in which it’s going on,” says Sibiya.

Yesterday, Sibiya denied seeking the assistance of a traditional healer before and after Meyiwa’s alleged hit. The traditional consultation allegedly included using muthi before carrying out the job, and cleansing after.

State prosecutor George Baloyi says it was Sibiya that pointed out Mkhulu Zwane’s house following his arrest in May 2020.

Baloyi: So, are you denying that what Serg Mogola is explaining is what happened that she came to sit next to you, that Mr. Lionel Zwane came and you then confirmed that there is a person that you consulted. Are you  saying that evidence of sergeant mogola is false?

Sibiya: That’s a lie.

Sergeant Batho Mogola, one of the officers who arrested Sibiya, previously testified that Sibiya had confirmed to her that he had consulted with Mkhulu Zwane before the Bafana Bafana’s October 2014 murder.
