The City of Johannesburg has again sought to dispel claims that R4 billion went missing from Joburg Water’s accounts.
This emerged during the briefing on the city’s water progress update in Johannesburg.
The head of the City’s budget office, Charity Wurayayi says, “The city runs sweeping accounts for each of its entities that fall under the umbrella of City of Jhb’s banking accounts. So, on a daily basis each entity’s bank accounts sweep into the city’s primary bank account.”
“So as at the 30th of June, the sweeping balance for Jhb Water was R4 billion which swept into the primary bank account as at that date. If you go on the 1st of July that same R4 billion was still available, so it didn’t go missing,” adds Wurayayi.
