Police rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered an AK-47 rifle with scores of ammunition after stopping a suspicious vehicle with five occupants on the R80 highway in Rosslyn, Tshwane on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Four men arrested for kidnapping are set to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Monday for a formal bail application.
The suspects were arrested earlier this month after Tshwane police spotted their vehicle on the R80 highway and found a 42-year-old kidnapped victim inside.
They face multiple charges, including kidnapping, fraud, robbery with aggravating circumstances, impersonating a police officer, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
On October 10, the accused, allegedly impersonating law enforcement by wearing Hawks t-shirts, stopped a vehicle that was being driven by a 42-year-old man.
They reportedly pointed a rifle, forced him out of the vehicle, handcuffed him, covered his head with a t-shirt, and abducted him in a white Golf GTI.
The Tshwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) intercepted the suspicious vehicle on the R80 highway, discovering that the registration number belonged to a different vehicle.
A search yielded an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, police dashboard lights, cable ties, a vehicle siren, and t-shirts with police emblems. Reporting by Nonhlanhla Ntshingila
