The matric class of 2025 sits for their first exam paper


Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says her department is fully prepared to administer the 2025 matric examinations.

Over 900 000 candidates will sit for the examinations which will start on Tuesday.

Gwarube briefed the media in Skukuza, Mpumalanga on Monday, on her department’s state of readiness for the exams

“All nine provincial departments have indicated their readiness to administer the exams and I can confirm that all nine provinces are indeed ready. As part of the efforts to ensure that all candidates are registered for the examination we have been advised that all candidate data has been uploaded on SA-SAMS (South African School Administration and Management System), verified by the schools and audited by the DBE.”

Meanwhile, the Limpopo Education Department is optimistic that it will improve its matric pass rate from 85% last year to more than 90% this year.

Learners in the province will start with English paper one on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Grade 12 learners at the Kgakgoa Secondary school in Moletjie say it’s been a tough year buy they are ready to score top marks

“We are ready like everything that we have adjusted and everything that we have prepared we are ready for the exam because the motivation that the principal has given us teachers, they are motivating us to work hard.”

Another learner says “My academic journey was not great because as you know being a grade 12 is hard work. It is a very, very big job. My schedule with regard to studying is I make sure that I study from Monday to Saturday. I make sure that every day I take my books study and work hard making sure I study every subject.”
