Hindus around the country will celebrate the Festival of Lights or Diwali on Monday. While this is a time of great joy with family and friends, for others, specifically the less fortunate and those without families, it can be a very dark day.
However, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of South Africa will be spreading love and light for those who need it the most by hosting a Diwali celebration in Durban on Monday.
The organisation’s Pravesh Hurdeen-Singh explains how the public can join in to spread some Diwali cheer: “You know, we all are flanked by our families, we are very proud to be with our families and friends. But little do we realise that down the road, there are a number of people in our areas that are living very lonely lives, very depressed lives. And let’s reach out to these people. Vishwa Hindu Parishad is actually a worldwide organisation, and we are in existence in South Africa for a good number of years. So, at a social level, we found that this is a very important area that we need to investigate, intervene, and assist and support.”
