Over 900 suspects during their Gauteng-led Operation Shanela


The South African Police Service have arrested over 900 suspects during their Gauteng-led Operation Shanela, this week.

This is in efforts to combat criminal activities as the festive season is approaching. Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General, Tommy Mthombeni says they will be zero tolerance of criminal activities in the province.

“Have huge challenge with illegal immigrants, in this area. We have also managed to arrest 183 illegal immigrants of which some were found with drugs and closed liquor outlets,” says Mthombeni.

He says they are monitoring town.

“We are walking through the streets of Johannesburg; through Bree and MTN taxi rank to ensure that communities feel safe,” he adds.
