The highest number of arrests for sexual crimes were recorded in the Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal
Police say a total of 2 320 suspects were arrested across the country by the Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, during September.

During the same period, about 46 sexual offenders were sentenced to life imprisonment, while 35 others received sentences of 20 years or more for various sexual offences.

Police spokesperson, Amanda Van Wyk says most of the arrests were recorded in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

“The highest number of arrests were recorded in the Western Cape 536, followed by Gauteng 459 and KwaZulu-Natal 360. These recent successes underscore the South African Police Service’s unwavering dedication and commitment to safeguarding women, children, and other vulnerable groups within our communities,” says van Wyk.
