‘I don’t feel safe anymore’ after raid with assault rifles: Mogotsi

Operations have resumed at the business property of Brown Mogotsi in Seweding village in Mahikeng, North West. This comes after police raided the complex on Thursday.

Police say this was part of ongoing investigations that have been discussed before the Mandlanga Commission and Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.

Mogotsi has been in the spotlight following allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that he has close ties with Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, who is currently on special leave.

“They asked us, ‘You know Brown Mogotsi?’. We said, ‘Yes, we know him. ‘  Where is he? And then we said, ‘We don’t know where he is. ‘ They said okay, and then they asked some ladies here if they saw him, and then they said no, we didn’t see him. Then they went to that side there because that is where he is doing his business. When they go, they didn’t find him even that side. We are not that afraid because we didn’t do anything wrong, we are just renting,” says Nazik Mumba, who is operating a business at the complex.

Mogotsi says that since the raid, he does not feel safe anymore.

“I am just worried that they are now bringing this with assault rifles, more than twenty police officers with balaclavas.  Why are you coming from KZN with 20 rifles looking for a man like me just to take my cellphones, gadget stuff like that?”
