Accused number one in Senzo Meyiwa trial, Muzi Sibiya.
Muzi Sibiya, accused No.1 in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, says he was always in communication with accused No.4, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, checking in on each other.
Sibiya has been under cross-examination at the High Court in Pretoria, where he is appearing alongside four of his co-accused.
They have been charged with the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
Sibiya, who says he is related to Maphisa, has not denied the communication between 2018 and 2020 as per the state’s evidence.
The records, however, do not show any interaction between them on the day of the alleged hit.
Sibiya is responding to questions from defence counsel Zithulele Nxumalo.
Sibiya: Yes, I would call him when I would be checking up on him.
Nxumalo: He also instructs me that on these occasions, when you were in contact with him. You were just checking on him. And when he, that is, accused number No.4, would communicate with you. He will check on you over the cell phone. And you never discussed with you the killing of the deceased in this case, as he was not involved.
Sibiya: Yes, we never discussed anything about the death of Senzo. Simply as myself, I also know nothing about the death of Senzo.
