African jurists are demanding the urgent adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to protect whistleblowers.
They have argued that algorithms can create secure, anonymous reporting channels to prevent incidents such as the killing of Gauteng Health Department official Babita Deokaran in August 2021.
Founder and Head of Higher Education Media Editor Edwin Naidu say the technological intervention is essential.
“So last month, at the biannual International Bar Association African Regional Forum Conference in Joburg, jurists and legal experts, they talked about AI and what it could be doing to help, you know, in the fight against crime, particularly being used as an aid for whistleblowing.”
“They argued that, you know, Africa is home to 70% of global mobile money transactions, which makes it very uniquely positioned to harness the power of AI,” explains Naidu.
