Judgment reserved in Phala Phala trial as witness disputes statement

The Modimolle regional court in Limpopo has reserved judgment in an application for a trial within a trial in the case of the theft of $580 000 dollars at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala Farm.

The state applied that the evidence of its fourth witness be examined after he told the court that he did not make the statement. The witness told the court that the statement was presented to him by the police and was ordered to sign it.

He is testifying against three accused, Immanuela David and siblings Floriana and Ndilinasho Joseph, who allegedly broke into President Ramaphosa’s farm and stole the money in February 2020.

The fourth witness has been provisionally excused from the stand. The sixth state witness, who is the general manager at Phala Phala farm, is testifying.

“Some of the pillows in the sitting room and staff were not in their place, so there was little time and cushion laying on the floor. There was clear evidence that someone was in the house, so I immediately instructed them to have a look at what was stolen. Even myself, I can see the big screen TV still there.”
