Daveyton residents say drug abuse wreaking havoc in schools

Residents of Daveyton in Ekurhuleni say drug abuse is wreaking havoc in schools. This emerged during a drug rehabilitation campaign that the Gauteng Social Development Department embarked on in the area.

The campaign aims to track the progress of former drug addicts who have completed the department’s drug rehabilitation programmes.

Community member Nombulelo Ndaliso has encouraged parents not to give up on their children. Ndaliso says the issue of drugs affects them deeply because children lose focus not only at home but also in school.

“This is painful for parents and educators alike. I’m emotional as I say this because it’s heartbreaking. I can’t leave my son alone, especially since he’s involved with dangerous people and is on drugs. Parents should never give up on their children. Even now, I am doing everything I can for him, but I’m not okay,” adds Ndaliso.
