Police in Boland shoot armed robbery suspect, arrest three others

Police have shot and killed a suspected robber in Wellington, Boland, Western Cape, after he pointed a firearm at them.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says three other suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, which occurred on Monday.

Twigg says two pistols and ammunition were confiscated from the suspects.

“The members received information about two vehicles standing in the parking area of a supermarket. Upon arrival on the scene, the two vehicles, one silver and one black Kia Picanto, sped off. They noticed four unknown males running in the direction of the taxi rank and gave chase on foot. One of the suspects pointed at police members with a firearm and was fatally wounded. The other three adult male suspects were arrested, and two 9mm pistols with ammunition and a plastic bag containing cellular telephones were recovered. The suspects are due to appear in the Wellington Magistrate’s court on Thursday.”
