Twelve men to appear in NW court following shooting incidents

Twelve men are expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court in the North West on Tuesday.

They were arrested last Tuesday following shooting incidents in Marula Kop village in the Masebudule area.

Police say preliminary investigations indicate that a conflict between two security companies led to the attack in which a man was killed.

The conflict is over a chrome mining area.

A taxi driver was also kidnapped and later rescued after the incident in which five other people were wounded.

Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says, “Following the incident that happened on Tuesday last week, we have arrested 12 people. Among others, they are facing counts of attempted murder, murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.”

“The case was postponed for bail application and further investigations. I must also indicate that over the weekend, we have also arrested two people for theft of firearms and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” he adds.
