The family of former Richmond Municipal Manager Sibusiso Sithole, says they can never find complete closure until the mastermind behind his killing is behind bars.
Sithole was assassinated in March 2017, while on his way to a council meeting to discuss fraud and corruption matters which he was investigating.
Convicted hitman Sabelo Phewa is today appearing in the Durban High Court for a victim impact statement to be presented by the State.
He will be sentenced on Tuesday.
Sithole’s brother, Mluleki, addressed the media outside the court and said they want to know what really happened and what the exact motive was behind this whole situation.
“As a family, it is important for ills to get closure regarding this whole matter. We want to know what really happened, what was the exact motive behind this whole situation, which led to my brother being assassinated in such a brutal manner.
Closure is a very important thing for us as a family and that is for the whole family.
Meanwhile, Sithole’s sister, Sibongile Hlatshwayo-Sithole, says they want the court to sentence Phewa to life in prison.
“As a family, we were hoping that he could be sentenced to life. deservingly so because he has taken away a life. His life mattered not just to us; he was not just a breadwinner, and he financed other children’s school fees. Others have to drop out of school. He left his own kids, who also could not be funded. Many things went wrong from the time he lost his life, so therefore the accused deserved a life sentence.”
