File : An empty courtroom
Five suspects are expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court in Cape Town on Monday. Their case is related to the killing of a 14-year-old boy in Elsies River on the Cape Flats.
The boy was gunned down on Friday in what’s suspected to be a gang-related incident.
The Elsies River Community Policing has called for intervention programmes aimed at discouraging young people from joining gangs.
A 14-year-old boy is among the suspects.
Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk says the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit led to the arrests.
“Sterling investigation and the following up on all intelligence gathered by Elsies River detectives and members attached to Anti-Gang Unit led to the arrest of five suspects aged 16, 21, 23, 27 and 30 for the murder of the 14-year-old victim”.
