General Fannie Masemola to take the stand on the Madlanga Commission

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola will take the stand at the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of criminality, political interference, and corruption in the criminal justice system this Monday at 9:30 am.

This comes after KZN top cop, General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, completed his testimony on Friday, which delved into, among other things, an alleged infiltration of an organised crime syndicate within law enforcement agencies, allegedly with the assistance of key figures in business, parliament, the executive, and the criminal justice system as a whole.

Masemola is expected to respond to some of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations when he appears before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria.

They include an alleged lack of communication on the disbandment of the KwaZulu-Natal political killings task team.

Masemola will be the second witness after Mkhwanazi, who testified for three days, starting on Wednesday last week.

The spokesperson of the Madlanga Commission, Jeremy Michaels, says those who wish to attend the commission in person should follow specific regulations.

“We can confirm that the National Commissioner of Police, General Fannie Masemola, will testify before the Commission of Inquiry tomorrow, that’s Monday, the 22nd of September. The public will be able to follow the hearing via live stream on the Commission’s website: www.criminaljusticecommission.org.za, as well as various other radio, television, news, and social media platforms.

“We would also like to remind those members of the public who want to attend the hearing in person that they should bring along a valid identity document, or driver’s license, and that no weapons will be permitted on the Commission’s premises, the Bridget Mabandla Justice College in the Pretoria CBD,” Michaels adds.
