Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson speaking in Parliament.
Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson has welcomed the blacklisting of 40 contractors by the department’s entity, the Construction Industry Development Board.
The minister says the move by the CID delivers on his promise to act against non-performance and corruption.
McPherson says this represents a dramatic turnaround, as only one company was blacklisted in more than two decades.
He has added that the department is also refining its own processes to ensure that the blacklisting of non-performing companies happens more swiftly and that money is recovered.
“This move to blacklist these 40 non-performing contractors is exactly what we promised South Africans when I took office, that those who underperform or engage in corruption will be held accountable and removed from the system. This stands in contrast to the single company that was blacklisted since 2002 to 2024. That situation was completely unacceptable to me, especially in an environment where our projects are often delayed or poorly built,” says Macpherson.
🚨Promises made – Promises kept🚨
Today, I welcome the blacklisting of 40 contractors by the @cidb_sa since I took office – after only one was blacklisted since 2002.
