The mutilated corpse of a woman has been found floating in Muledane River near Thohoyandou in Limpopo.
Police say the body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition and was not identifiable.
Police Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says a post-mortem examination will determine the cause of death.
Mashaba says a police officer responded to a complaint and upon arrival, found the body of an unknown female floating in the water.
“The South African Police Service (SAPS) divers retrieved the body and preliminary investigations suggests it has been in the water for some time. The deceased believed to be between the ages of 19 and 21 was found naked with her hands and legs fastened. A 5kg mealie bag filled with stones was tied to her legs. Further visible injuries included the removal of some body parts with cuts on both feet,” adds Mashaba.
