N West residents urge authorities to fix wastewater treatment plant


Residents of Sannieshof in the North West have called on authorities to fix the wastewater treatment plant in their area.

They say the plant has been dysfunctional since 2005.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Tswaing Local Municipality has opened a criminal case against the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality for alleged environmental degradation and increasing health risks.

This is in addition to four other cases that have been opened.

The plant is allegedly discharging sewage directly into the Hartsriver, contaminating water sources and threatening long-term water security.

Local DA Councillor, Carin Visser, says they have been struggling with an ailing sanitation system for years.
