ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa
President Cyril Ramaphosa has committed to act on the recommendations that will be given to him when the Madlanga Commission concludes.
Ramaphosa made these remarks during an interview with the SABC on a number of critical issues that have been making headlines over the past week.
KZN Top cop, Lieutenant General, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has been testifying before the commission and has since implicated members of parliament, businessmen as well as the police top brass.
Days into the Madlanga Commission and a number of high ranking people including lawmakers, those in law enforcement and in business have been implicated in his testimony.
The country’s number one who has expressed his concern of the revelations that have been made by General Mkhwanazi has vowed to act on the outcomes of this commission-whatever they may be.
Ramaphosa says this key mandate will address ongoing issues in the criminal justice system, especially police conduct.
“It is a very important mandate, and it’s really going to deal with a number of issues that have dogged our criminal justice system, particularly when it comes to the role of police and what has been happening there. So, a lot of things will be unraveled, and we do tend to want to have transparency – and thereafter, when the judge gives me the report on a periodic basis, we will be able to examine that report and the recommendations that are made and act on them.”
“So in many ways, the Madlanga Commission process is what I would call going to be quite transformative. It’s going to lead to a number of changes so that the rule of law is properly consolidated in our country,” he added.
