Firearms allegedly linked to ‘Cat’ Matlala can be connected to 18 cases: SAPS

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says firearms allegedly linked to controversial businessmen Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala and Katiso KT Molefe can be connected to 18 serious murder and attempted murder cases.

Cat Matlala is currently facing three attempted murder charges for the foiled hit on socialite Tebogo Thobejane, taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and Dj Vettys.

While KT Molefe has been linked to the hired assassin of Dj Sumbody, amongst others.

Mathe was speaking outside the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, north of Johannesburg, where Matlala was denied bail and case postponed to the 7th October.

Mathe says more charges could be added against Matlala at a later stage.

“We have three firearms in police custody that we have seized. It’s the one AK 47, and the two pistols. In terms of the case of Sibayoni, we have linked the attempted murder to that one AK 47 that can also be linked to the Aman Swart case, the DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards’ case, the Don Tindleni, as well as the DJ Vintos murder. So, we now know that that AK47 was also used in the attempted murder of Joe Sibanyoni. And then in terms of the DJ Vettys case, we are positively linking the pistols, one of the pistols that we have seized and to the attempted murder of DJ Vettys one of the 9 mm pistols that is in in custody. And then in terms of the cases, I’d previously mentioned that we couldn’t rule out the possibility of adding more cases to both cases when we are referring now to the Katiso Molefe cases as well as the Cat Matlala case. The cases have now risen to 18. These include murder, attempted murder, and other serious crimes.”

The state has no evidence against me: Matlala
